Golden Schools Foundation Endorses 2016 Jeffco Schools Mill, Bond Measures Include Much-Needed Funding for Golden-Area Schools

GOLDEN, August 23, 2016 – At its monthly Board meeting, the Golden Schools Foundation (GSF) voted to endorse the 2016 Jeffco Schools Mill and Bond campaign. On the ballot this November, measures 3A and 3B will provide much-needed funding to upgrade security and technology, keep quality teachers in Jeffco classrooms and ensure Jeffco students are prepared for college and careers.

Specifically, Kyffin Elementary will receive $18,750,000 from the bond for a partial replacement and renovation at the school, which was built in 1972. The replacement and renovation was originally part of the proposed 2008 bond package, which Jeffco voters did not support.

Bell Middle School, originally built in 1964, will receive $2,250,000 for a four-classroom addition and renovation to accommodate moving to a grades 6-8 model, accepting incoming 6th grade students from all Golden articulation elementary schools. Families not residing in the Golden articulation area, but hoping to open enroll at Bell, will still have the ability to do so as long as there are student spaces available.

Finally, all Golden articulation schools will benefit from the mill levy override through additional operating dollars.

“The proposed mill and bond will provide much-needed funding for all Jeffco Schools,” said GSF Chair Kimberly Brock. “Looking specifically from a Golden perspective, we’re pleased to see the partial replacement and renovations for Kyffin and Bell, and excited for all area sixth grade students to have the opportunity to benefit from the quality programming, especially in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), at Bell. We encourage all Jeffco voters to join us in supporting these two measures.”

Together, the $33 million mill levy override and $535 million bond package will cost Jeffco homeowners $4.12 per month for every $100,000 in home value. For more information, visit www.supportjeffcoschools.com.
