2015 Teacher Recognition Award Winners

GSF received and reviewed numerous outstanding nominations and chose 2 teachers for their dedication and commitment to teaching. Each winner received a plaque and $1000 to use in their classroom. This year’s winners include:

Joe Johnson, 6th Grade Teacher at Shelton Elementary School

Mr. Johnson’s teaching style is energetic and engaging. He has a natural ability to convey difficult subject matter; whether it involves expressing the intricacies of mathematical ratios, or introducing the components of sentence structure, he has a willing listener in his classroom audience. -Joe’s nominator

Shannon Garvin, Math Teacher at Golden High School

Shannon is one of the best teachers I have had the privilege to work with. Every day she plans for and expects student success. Her efforts pay off with all students from her AP Calculus class to her intensive algebra intervention course. She continues to tell students that they can do the work, she believes in them as mathematicians as well as human beings. If you talk with any student who has ever had Shannon, they will tell you she changed their life. -Shannon’s nominator
